Notorious B.U.G.– Funkmeister Extraordinare

Bug just cracks me up.  She has the neatest taste in music.  For instance, one of Bug’s favorite songs is “Life in a Northern Town” by Dream Academy.  Great, great song, but not what I thought would appeal to a 4 year old.  Before I had one, that is.

One of her favorite genres is Funk, and why not?  She loves to dance, and Funk has a great beat.  The other night we were watching Shrek the Third, and the characters sing a cover of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)” over the credits.  Bug made us all get up and dance.  She then proceeded to bust out some breakdancing moves — not sure where that came from — by spinning on the floor.  Needless to say the original Sly & The Family Stone version is now on the iPod.  She’s got other Funk faves, too– anything by Earth, Wind & Fire and “Funkytown” by Chic.  OK– that last one may be more Disco than Funk, but it’s got Funk in the title, so it counts!

I think I’ll have to experiment and introduce Bug to more challenging genres– I’ve already started with David Bowie and Queen.  Full-on Art Rock and Prog Rock may be next!
